This wine is characterised by their freshness, power and tenacity. Their bouquet displays a dominance of mineral notes, which are often associated with delicate touches of citrus fruit (lemon and grapefruit).
Chablis Premier Cru Côte de Lechet is made from Chardonnay whose vines are around 35 years old, facing east. This Premier Cru is located on one of the hillsides of the village of Milly and located on the left bank of the Serein. The stony and sunny soil of the plots is reflected in this powerful and complex wine. The Côte de Lechet is one of the Premiers Crus of the Chablis vineyards with the greatest aging potential.
Burghound 93 points Outstanding. The hallmark citrus aromas of a fine Côte de Léchet are present on the nose of quinine, oyster shell and poached apple scents. There is fine volume to the delicious medium-bodied flavors that flash ample minerality on the saline, youthfully austere and focused finale. Lovely. Range: 90-93
Decanter 92 points Bernard Defaix started with just 2ha in 1959, with sons Sylvain and Didier now running operations. The domaine now extends over 27ha, with 8ha in Côte de Léchet. With slopes up to 38 degrees, exposure to the sun is a feature here, along with the pebbly soils. A tank sample, this has richness and warmth to it, with some oak character and leesy notes from extended ageing. Good freshness to finish. Drinking 2022 - 2027
