This blend of Grenache, Syrah and Carignane shares several characteristics with th Spe’y. It is a deep colored wine that has an aromatic profile bursting with blueberries, violets, truffle oil, cinnamon, and traces of coffee and perfume. The palate is medium bodied; yet balanced with a spicy complexity and hints of candied blueberries and rose petals. The beautifully rich mid palate is poised with a bright acidity and elongated with multidimensional round tannins to linger on your tongue.

Vineyard Notes Camp 4 Vineyard is situated on the eastern most edge of the Santa Ynez Valley and serves as the gateway into Happy Canyon . The vineyard is home to 18 varietals focusing on Rhone and Bordeaux, providing an ideal micro-climate with a long growing season and maximum flavor development. The sandy-loam soil aids in producing high quality wine grapes. We pride our vineyard on the perfect balance of quality and quantity with a focus on sustainable farming.

Production Notes The vintage of 2014 brought a third year in a row of excellent wines. We saw a shorter growing season, with one of the earliest harvests on record. This was due to a mild winter, early bud break, and a mild summer that led to picking three weeks earlier than last year. Some of the late ripeners came in earlier than expected which led to a compressed harvest towards the end of picking. Overall we saw a little more rainfall than in 2013, but it still proved to be a record-breaking drought year. We also saw a slightly above average crop size in most of the varietals, which led to higher juice yields. For wine quality, this translates to good acidity due to the early pick, great complexity and structure in balance with a lower alcohol.

Food Pairing Notes The natural freshness coupled with elegant and refined body of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan provide a very versatile wine to be paired with food. One of our favorite examples is a balsamic glazed duck breast served with brussel sprouts. The gamey aspects of the duck pair perfectly with the acidity, fruit and earthiness of the wine. Other pairings include a fresh beet and burrata salad, roast chicken with olives and even with your favorite pizza.

Wine Enthusiast 88 points There's an intriguing touch of peanut brittle as well as underripe berries, rose petals and roasted game on the nose of this blend of 55% Grenache, 25% Syrah and 20% Carignane. The palate offers dried cranberry and tar flavors. MATT KETTMANN

Scent of plum and oak and licorice. The nose is spicier than the palate, which introduces more cherry fruit. It's a great blend with a lighter medium body and some tannins to hold it up. A bit of a spicy finish, but overall a rather easy-drinking wine. I would pair with game meats, blue cheese, and dark chocolate.
