Antonio Galloni writes:  The 2020 Malescasse is a gorgeous, wonderfully expressive Haut-Médoc Cru Bourgeois. Cabernet Sauvignon aromatics open first, with plenty of floral and savory accents that lift from the glass. Pliant and caressing on the palate, with mid-weight structure, the 2020 is an absolute delight to taste. This is elegance personified.  Drinking 2025 - 2035.   - Vinous 92

Jeb Dunnuck writes:  Coming from the northern part of the Médoc and 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, raised in 40% new barrels, the 2020 Château Malescasse offers a terrific bouquet of cassis, spicy oak, chocolate, and leafy herbs. This carries to a medium-bodied Haut- Médoc with ripe tannins, solid mid-palate depth, and a great finish.  Drinking 2025 - 2035.  - Jeb Dunnuck 91

Zekun Shuai writes:  Solid cherries, gravel and some blue fruit with orange zest and iron. A sleek, medium- to full-bodied Haut-Medoc laden with crumbled, fine tannins. Well-balanced and structured. Drink or hold.  - James Suckling 92

Alistair Cooper MW writes:  Spicy cedar and cigar box with an earthy gravelly note on the nose – textbook Médoc. Rich and creamy oak intertwine with the cigar notes on the palate, quite sweet as well as savoury with a slightly charred smoky note on the finish. Lots to enjoy here.  Drinking 2024 - 2034.  - Jancis Robinson 16

William Kelley writes:  From holdings on the edge of the plateau of Grands Poujeaux, the 2020 Malescasse is a Merlot-driven bottling that offers up aromas of dark berries, orange zest, violets and pencil shavings, followed by a medium to full-bodied, velvety and seamless palate that's fleshy and gourmand.  Drinking 2023 - 2035.  - Robert Parker Wine Advocate 90

Neal Martin writes:  The 2020 Malescasse is very endearing on the nose, well-defined with lifted blackberry and bilberry fruit, a subtle estuarine scent filtering through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation, nicely balanced and pure with lightly spiced, graphite-tinged black fruit towards the finish. This is a well-crafted Haut-Médoc and comes highly recommended. Bravo.  - Vinous 92

Jancis Robinson writes:  Dark purplish crimson. Lively, well-integrated nose. Round, supple texture without much obvious tannin or oak influence – but this is just the sort of early-maturing red bordeaux that would be great for an airline. Juicy and well balanced even if not a serious player.  Drinking 2023 - 2030.  - Jancis Robinson 16

Wine Spectator 91 points Solidly built, showing tobacco and charcoal notes mixed with dark currant and blackberry compote flavors. There's good energy here and the fruit and earth details meld well through the finish. Has a little grip for mid-term cellaring too. Best from 2021 through 2030.Decanter 93 points A broad-shouldered Haut-Médoc that feels true to the vintage, fleshed out with cassis and blackberry fruits and confident tannins, traces of heat through the mid-palate making it a little uncharacteristic of the appellation, but this has swagger and interest – an excellent wine. Drinking Window 2022 - 2040Jeb Dunnuck 92 points From vines located between Margaux and Saint-Julien, the 2016 Château Malescasse is a winner and a solid step up over the 2015. Saturated ruby/purple-colored with a smoking good bouquet of blackberries, saddle leather, dried herbs, and lead pencil, this beauty hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a rounded, sexy texture, and a serious finish. Hats off to this estate and the consulting team of Stéphane Derenoncourt for this stunning effort. Drink it any time over the coming 15+ years.James Suckling 92 points A touched of char-grilled character, next to bitter chocolate and full black fruit. This is big-boned Haut-Médoc that packs a serious punch at the front, but is quite silky and long at the finish. Drink or hold.
