Just outside of Strasbourg lies the Koenig Winery, the first kosher wine cellar in France. Alsace has a long and rich history of Jewish community—more than 176 synagogues were built in region, with one in nearly every town and village, so, it’s of little surprise that the tradition of fine wine would include the kosher category.

Koenig has produced a wide range of wines since 1960, including Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, as well as Crémant d’Alsace. The wines are certified kosher and made under the supervision of the Beth-Din of Strasbourg, a kosher regulatory council.

Located in Dambach-la-Ville, lying northwest of Sélestat on the eastern slopes of the Vosges mountains, Koenig practices responsible viticulture with low yields. The wines are known for reflecting their terroirs.

The Koenig Riesling produced in the Alsace region in France is a perfectly balanced wine with crisp acid and alcohol. The Koenig commitment to quality winemaking starts in the vineyard, where responsible viticulture and low yields produce unique opulent vintages.

The wine has a golden yellow color with a slightly pink tinge. The aroma is a really nice subtle fruit though there is a much more earthiness, much more terroir. The taste is a really nice full bodied mouth feel, earthy.

This is just a really enjoyable drinking experience, it feels exactly like Riesling is supposed to taste like.
