95 Points Wine Advocate | The 2020 Scharzhofberger GG offers a very clear, delicate and finely fruity bouquet with crushing slate aromas, and it is more openhearted than it normally is. The fruit is perfectly ripe and focused on both nose and palate. Incredibly rich and juicy on the palate, this is a full-bodied, intense and firmly structured Scharzhofberger with fine tannins intermingling with salts on the long and very intense finish. A great wine that still needs to age. Tasted in Wiesbaden in August 2021.

94 Points Vinous | Along with a predictable yet no less lovely meld of white peach, lime and green herbs (thyme, rosemary, marjoram, fennel), the nose of the 2020 Riesling Scharzhofberger Grosses Gewächs delivers an enticing, hard-to-pin-down savor somewhere on the border between mineral and animal. The richly textured yet buoyant inner-mouth impression reprises peach and herbs, while introducing suggestions of chamomile and musky narcissus, and the savory elements now coalesce around a mouthwatering impression of raw oyster innards. The finish is as refreshing and invigorating as it is complex and displays admirable transparency to wet stone, not to mention to the aforementioned array of herbal and floral details.
94 Points James Suckling | In spite of being so youthful, this shows an open nose of mandarin orange and nectarine, together with elegance and beauty, as it moves gracefully over the palate, the excellent ripeness married to silky acidity. Delicate spice at the long finish. Drink or hold.

Riesling GG – Large vine from the historic Pergentsknopp plot with a dry taste profile.
An aristocratic wine from a great location. From the refreshingly firm Scharzhofberger Riesling, the “Pergentsknopp” is true theatre – a wine that already excites us.
Rarely before have we held in our hands such ripe grapes that smell of wonderfully exotic fruits and mace. It was worth waiting until well into November to harvest. The fragrance already reveals a symbiosis of deep mineral spiciness, dense creaminess and the complexity of the finest slate layers.
In the glass, this wine unfolds like a large red burgundy in all its complexity and seductively silky smoothness. We are thankful to be allowed to experience the emergence of such a wine in one of the best white wine locations in the world.

„A dramatic wine with great aroma, the finest texture, the most tender fruit.“

96 Punkte 2018 Scharzhofberg Pergentsknopp GG
„Typical for the location, balsamic and radiantly fresh, citrusy in the scent, very pure. Minerality oscillating in the mouth, with silky textures, relaxed and round, ripe, but structured acidity, a very subtle wine, tactile-minerality and fading slaty-spiciness.“

98+/100 2016 Scharzhofberger P Riesling
„...this is a fascinating dry Scharzhofberger from the Pergentsknopp plot. The 2016 is as fine and filigreed as it is intense and complex. The finish, however, is mind blowing, Van Volxem's 2016 Pergentsknopp is the finest dry Scharzhofberger I have ever tasted and one of the finest dry German Rieslings I have tasted from this more than excellent and digestible vintage. What great tension here. This is powerhouse of a Riesling. The combination of purity, tension and complexity is fabulous here.“

Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 04/2018
97/100 Höchstbewerteter Wein des Jahres & bester Riesling: Scharzhofberger P 2017
„You have to call the first place a sensation. ... For the first time since this wine guide was founded, a dry Riesling with 97/100 points is the highest-rated wine of the entire vintage and wine guide. And this wine comes from Van Volxem. It is also the first of the Mosel or Saar that has been able to top the best German dry wines. ... and a sign that the Mosel will play an important role in the area of dry Rieslings in the future.“

Vinum Weinguide, 2018
96/100 2016 Scharzhofberger Pergentsknopp
„Black tea, currant leaves, white currants, ripe citrus fruits, crystal clear, radiant, spirited acid bite with a lot of clear fruit, fine tannin bite in the finale.“

„…ripe nose of pear, white melon, lemon and grapefruit peel. Where this beauty comes into its own is on the palate, where vibrant flavours of lemon peel, white minerals and dried herbs kick in and give this wine class and presence. Zesty acidity underlines this in the long and focused finish.(…) 2020-2035“

Moselfinewine.com,„Van Volxem Scharzhofberger P best fine dry wine Germany 2013.“

Gault Millau, 2014
96/100
„Light straw yellow. Very concentrated and complex on the nose. Smoky and spicy, ripe fruit, herbal notes, minerality, but somewhat sleepy compared to the already explosive Gottesfuss. This wine also has an almost unbelievable density, concentration and depth on the palate, it seems to me a little more opulent and complex than the Gottesfuss.“

Weinreporter Tastingroom.com über VDP GROSSE GEWÄCHSE 2012 SAAR, 08/2013
96/100
„Dense, concentrated nose of candied stone fruit and citrus fruits with herbal-plant aromas and intensive, slighty earthy minerality. Clean, dense and very juicy in the mouth, radiant, partly candied fruit with lively, fine acidity, lasting and deep on the palate, clear, subtle and at the same time intense, rather cool minerality, still very young, complex, long, very fine, but extremely exciting finish. Not excited, almost obvious size. Inspiring. 2013-2024 + “

WeinPlus, 11/2012„The outstanding dry wine comes from the Van Volxem winery this year. In spite of its concentration, the Scharzhofberger "Pergentsknopp" (96/100) has an extraordinary tension and pace and at the same time a delicate play, which one finds almost only on the Saar. ... If you look at the other Grand Crus from Van Volxem, all of which are among the top in Germany, the conclusion arises that the Saar's potential for large, dry Rieslings has remained undetected for far too long.“
